Death toll in Gazipur button factory fire rises to 3

The death toll in a fire at a button factory in Gazipur, Sreepur has risen to three. Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Joynal Abedin Mondal confirmed this information on Monday (December 23) morning.

He said that information was received that one person’s body was recovered from the factory on Monday morning. A team of Sreepur Police Station was immediately sent to the spot. Detailed information will be provided later.

The OC identified one of the three deceased. He said that one of the three deceased has been identified. His name is Mazlum Mia, and he lives in Lalmonirhat district. His father’s name is Bablu Mia.

Meanwhile, on Sunday night, Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Mamun confirmed the recovery of two bodies and said that two bodies had been recovered till Sunday night. Both the bodies were burnt and mutilated in the fire.

Therefore, the identities of the two bodies cannot be confirmed. I think they may have died in the initial explosion.

On Sunday, December 22, at around 1:30 pm, a fire broke out in a factory named M & U Trims Limited in Bhangnahati village, ward number 4 of Sreepur Municipality.

Locals said that a fire broke out in the chemical warehouse of the factory on Sunday afternoon. Several explosions occurred immediately. The people of the factory started running in panic.

People living in the houses around the factory started bringing their furniture and various household items outside to safety. The explosion shook the surrounding area.
