We will go towards elections with reforms: Asif Mahmud

Staff Reporter, Thakurgaon //

Asif Mahmud, advisor to the interim government’s Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said, so many people did not give their lives just for an election or vote. The families of the martyrs and the injured are talking about reforms. That is why we think reforms are urgent.

He said these things at a program to distribute winter clothes among the needy and exchange views with officials at the upazila level at Baliadangi Upazila Parishad in Thakurgaon on Wednesday morning.

He said, our one-point goal was the fall of the fascist Sheikh Hasina and the abolition of the fascist system. By abolishing the fascist system, we have clearly said that institutions have been taken through fascism, all institutions have been brought to the point of almost destruction. Economic institutions have been destroyed. From that point, we think the implementation of the one-point goal is very important.

Advisor Asif Mahmud said, one clear maintenance of this government is that we will carry out the reform work. It has been almost three months since the commissions that were formed for the reform were formed. They will now give their proposals. Then, after discussing with the stakeholders, we will reform and go towards the elections.

This advisor said, the people of the northern region did not get the development they expected. During the previous government, development was done only focusing on specific areas. But I want to ensure that the importance and allocation for development in the northern region will be increased by eliminating area-based discrimination.

He said, low-quality goods have been supplied to rural electricity. Action will be taken against those involved in this.

During the Awami League’s tenure, many municipalities were established that were not done according to the rules, and action will be taken after investigating them. Along with this, work is underway to establish a few new municipalities.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Sardar Mustafa Shahin, Additional Superintendent of Police Liza Begum, Baliadangi Upazila Executive Officer Palash Kumar Debnath, LGED Executive Engineer Mohammad Mamun Biswas, Upazila Engineer Mainul, officials from various departments and leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement were present at the time.

Earlier, he inspected various development works in Balidangi Upazila and assured of increasing the allocation for the backward Thakurgaon.
