A Bangladeshi couple has died while trying to save two daughters from a beach in Australia. Local police recovered their bodies from a beach in Walpole on Saturday (December 28).
The Bangladeshi couple are said to be former students of Khulna University. However, their two daughters are safe in the incident.
The two deceased are Shahidul Hasan Swapan, a former student of the 97th batch of the Urban and Rural Planning (URP) discipline of Khulna University, and Sabrina Ahmed Papri, a 3rd batch student of the same discipline. They are husband and wife. Swapan was teaching at Curtin University in Australia.
It is learned that Shahidul Hasan Swapan and Sabrina Ahmed Papri had gone to the beach in Walpole West, Australia, with their families during the Christmas holidays.
At that time, Swapan-Papri’s two daughters were drowning due to the pull of the sea water. They quickly went into the sea to save them. Although the children were rescued alive, both of them drowned.
Khulna University Alumni Association (KUA), Bangladesh Institute, Khulna University Planners Alumni Association and Board of Planners (BIP) expressed deep shock and condolences on their death.
The death of the couple has cast a shadow of grief over the Bangladeshi community and families in Australia.
