President Shahabuddin welcomes new Russian ambassador

President Md. Shahabuddin has urged Russia to take more skilled and unskilled manpower from Bangladesh.

He made the call when newly appointed Russian ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander G. Khojin came to Bangabhaban to present his credentials to the President on Monday.

Earlier in the morning, a smart group of the Presidential Guard Regiment presented a guard of honor to the new ambassador upon his arrival at Bangabhaban.

Welcoming the new Russian ambassador, the President said that the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Russia in various fields, including trade and investment, are expanding day by day. Mentioning Russia’s continued support for the development of Bangladesh, he urged the timely completion of the ‘Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant’ project.

During the meeting, the President requested that necessary steps be taken to ensure that Bangladeshi students get more opportunities for higher education in Russia.

Md. Shahabuddin expressed hope that Russia would continue to put pressure on Myanmar to repatriate the forcibly displaced Rohingyas.

Noting that Bangladesh imports various agricultural inputs including wheat and fertilizer from Russia, the President called on the two countries to work together to address the challenges of food security.

During the meeting, the new Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khojin sought the President’s full cooperation in discharging his duties.

The President’s Military Secretary Major General Mohammad Adil Chowdhury, Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam and Foreign Secretary Jasim Uddin were present at the time.
