Communication between Myanmar government and Arakan Army being maintained: Home Affairs Advisor

Teknaf Correspondent //

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that since the Arakan State of Myanmar, which borders Bangladesh, has now been taken over by rebel groups, Bangladesh is maintaining communication with the country’s revolutionary groups as well as the junta government.

He said these things in response to a journalist’s question at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Jetty on the Naf River in Teknaf’s Damdamiyasthala on Monday afternoon after visiting the border.

The advisor also said that a decision has not yet been made on the registration of those who have newly infiltrated. Because no policy decision has been made to grant them shelter in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh border is completely under the control of the BGB. There is no reason for locals to be afraid at the border. However, some brokers are cooperating with the Rohingya infiltration. Communication between the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army on the relevant issues is being maintained from the beginning to protect our interests.

He said that gunfire can still be heard on the border. However, the BGB and Coast Guard are performing their duties professionally for the security of the border residents. There is no reason for the border residents to panic. The border is completely under our control. We are ready to deal with any situation at the border. The manpower of all forces at the border has been increased.

Regarding drugs, the Home Affairs Advisor said, “Drugs are a long-standing problem. However, everyone’s cooperation is needed to prevent drugs. It cannot be solved with law alone. Once all the situations at the border are resolved, a corridor will be opened on Shahparir Island along with fishing in the Naf River.

He said, 60,000 Rohingya have infiltrated Bangladesh unnoticed by the Border Security Force. Some dishonest Bangladeshi brokers are facilitating the infiltration of the Rohingya. Everyone’s cooperation is needed to counter this brokering ring. Otherwise, they will become dangerous. Dr. Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, recently drew the attention of world leaders to the repatriation of the Rohingya at the UN conference. Illegal infiltration will not be allowed, no matter the situation.

The Home Affairs Advisor reached Teknaf from Dhaka by helicopter around noon today. Later, he held a meeting with BGB officials. After that, he inspected several border points in Teknaf and observed the overall situation. At that time, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui was with him.
