Elections may be held by December this year if political parties do not want more reforms, said the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Islam.
He made this known at a press conference on Tuesday evening.
Shafiqul Alam said that the Chief Advisor had said in his address to the nation that if there are fewer reforms, elections will be held by December this year. And if the political parties or stakeholders want more reforms from the interim government, it may take another six months.
He said that the Chief Advisor has repeatedly made this clear.
Shafiqul Alam also said that the timing of the elections depends on the demands of our stakeholders. In dialogue with us, they will express their wishes, how much reform they want.
‘Reform is an ongoing process for a country. But people have high expectations from this interim government. One of the main desires of the July coup was state reform. These reforms have been commissioned for state reform.’
The press secretary said, people think that if there is an interim government, then many reforms will be possible. Reforms are needed for a fair election. The chief advisor and the reform commission will discuss with the stakeholders for a fair election. A decision will be taken on the basis of these discussions.
