Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said that political parties are in favor of giving as much time as needed to draft the declaration of the July Uprising. However, they have been warned not to rush or waste time in this process. A proposal has also been made to form a committee to discuss with everyone in drafting this declaration.

On Thursday, political parties held discussions with the chief advisor on the drafting of the declaration of the July Uprising at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

After the meeting, Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul said that a meeting was held under the leadership of the chief advisor of the interim government, Dr. Yunus, regarding the drafting of the declaration of the July Uprising.

Asif Nazrul said that all the political forces of the July Uprising, including BNP, Jamaat, Hefazat Islam, Left Forum, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, National Citizens Committee, participated in the meeting.

He said that everyone agreed on the formulation of the July Uprising Declaration in the meeting. Everyone said that there is a need to make such a declaration. However, there are many suggestions coming here – in broad terms, they are that everyone’s contribution should be mentioned in the declaration, continuity should be mentioned.

The legal advisor further said that the political nature or legal nature of the declaration should be clarified. This declaration has been further discussed, and more emphasis has been placed on formulating it unanimously by discussing it among all the political forces in favor of the July Uprising, students and the public.

Stating that the political parties are in favor of giving the necessary time to formulate the July Declaration, Asif Nazrul said that as much time as is necessary can be taken for this. However, he also gave his opinion so that there is no unnecessary delay. Everyone has agreed that such a declaration should be made on the basis of more close observation. Everyone has expressed optimism that we will be able to succeed in this process.

The advisor said, just as we all came together in the July mass uprising and forced the fascist mass murderer Sheikh Hasina to flee, we will all be able to prepare this declaration together.

Asked whether there was any discussion about the time frame, he said, “All the political parties and students’ organizations who participated have said that they have reached a consensus to prepare a declaration unanimously. As much time as it takes, it should be taken. There should be no rush. There should be no unnecessary delay. Many have proposed to form a committee for this purpose. We will consider these proposals quickly and take a decision.

Asked whether there will be further discussion on this issue, the advisor said, there may be a discussion, there may be a committee. We will decide on a course of action very soon with their (political parties) opinions.”

Asked whether there is a gap between the political parties regarding the declaration, Asif Nazrul said, “There has been no gap between the political parties. There have only been different opinions on the method by which the declaration will be formulated. We welcome all opinions. We do not see any disagreement anywhere, rather everyone is saying that everyone should have ownership over this declaration.”
