Government’s main obstacle to reforming the systems left behind by Awami fascism

Dhaka //

Leaders of the National Citizens’ Committee say that the government’s main obstacle to reforming the systems left behind by Awami fascism are various political parties. They are obstructing the government in various ways regarding reforms. All they want is elections.

They claim that the families of martyrs are being deprived of justice as cases are being filed nationwide after August 5.

They said these things at a police station representative conference held at the Celebrity Convention Hall of Autoby Center in Gulshan, the capital, on Tuesday. The National Citizens’ Committee organized the police station representative conference with the aim of abolishing the fascist system and implementing a new political settlement.

The representative meeting was attended by writer and thinker Professor Salimullah Khan, Citizens’ Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwari, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Arif Sohel, National Citizens’ Committee spokesperson Samantha Sharmin, chief organizer Sarjis Alam, co-spokesperson Mushfiqur Us Salehin, among others.

Writer and thinker Professor Salimullah Khan said, there are many types of political parties in our country. Due to the need of the time, major political parties including the Indian National Congress, the All India Muslim League, the Awami League and the BNP have been formed. If those who are carrying out a well-organized movement in 2024 want to form a political party, no one can stop them.

He said, if the country runs on the basis of politics, then a political party is essential. A modern democratic state cannot run without a political party. However, doubts have arisen among the existing parties about the formation of a political party by the youth. They think, what will happen to us if the youth form a party? We really need a political party. They will play a role in ensuring the accountability of the ruling party.

Professor Salimullah Khan said, the intelligence agency of Bangladesh failed to understand the mass uprising on July 36, 2024. Not only the country, but also foreign organizations failed. The people of the country have shown through the movement what they can do if they unite. Therefore, democracy must be established to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Arrangements must be made so that people can exercise their voting rights. The constitution should be formulated according to the aspirations of the people. Discrimination among people should be eliminated, exploitation and oppression should be stopped, social dignity should be ensured, justice should be established. All kinds of killings, disappearances, murders should be stopped. Because the state system had collapsed due to their increase.

He also said that today the question is being raised whether the declaration of the July mass uprising will be made or not. Why won’t there be a declaration? Of course there should be a declaration.

In the second part of the program, the leaders of the National Citizens’ Committee answered the questions of the leaders of the organizations present.

In response to a question, the convener of the Citizens’ Committee, Nasiruddin Patwari, said that the health system of Bangladesh has been destroyed by Sheikh Hasina and her cronies. Reforms are needed in this sector. If reforms are not done, it will get worse in the future. I hope the government will take effective measures in this regard.

Why are the advisors afraid to reform? In response to such a question, he said that various political parties are putting pressure on the government not to reform. They are obstructing various works. We said, the President must be removed. The constitution must be abolished. Political parties have obstructed this matter. We believe that political parties will quickly withdraw from this place.

In response to the question that many parties including BNP consider the National Citizens Committee as an opposition party before the announcement of the new political party, he said, we do not consider ourselves an opposition party. We are doing our own work. The new political party will be announced next month. After that, the people of Bangladesh will decide who will come to power.

Akhtar Hossain said, so much time has passed but we have not received the list of the specific number of martyrs. We have requested the government to publish the exact number quickly. The injured should be ensured treatment and their rehabilitation. I hope the government will take effective initiatives.

He said, the people of Bangladesh could not cast their votes in the national elections of 14, 18 and 24. That fascist Awami League gave their votes at night. Many are now trying to rehabilitate this Awami League. We want to say clearly that the people of Bangladesh will not allow the Awami League to participate in the elections in the future.

Akhtar Hossain said, “Since August 5, litigation has started in Bangladesh. Through this litigation, the families of the martyrs will be deprived of justice. Therefore, this litigation must be stopped.”

Samantha Sharmin said, “Awami League has destroyed human rights. They have tortured and oppressed people while in power. This Awami League will not be allowed to rehabilitate in any way.”
