Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Towhid Hossain, who is in China on an official visit, has urged Chinese automobile companies to consider setting up electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plants in Bangladesh.
He made the call on Thursday while visiting a high-tech electric vehicle manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Shanghai. The plant produces about 500 electric vehicles daily.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this in a press release.
Later, the Foreign Affairs Adviser met the acting mayor of Shanghai and stressed the need to increase trade, commerce and people-to-people communication between Dhaka and Shanghai.
The acting mayor invited Bangladesh to participate in the ‘Shanghai Tourism Festival’ to be held this year.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain also exchanged views with a delegation from the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce on Wednesday evening.
During the discussion, they shed light on the relocation of Chinese manufacturing factories to Bangladesh, especially the relocation of the Chinese Special Economic Zone located in Chittagong, and the establishment of air communication between Chittagong and Shanghai.
The advisor is expected to return to the country on Friday.
