Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that all kinds of preparations will be made to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.

European Union Ambassador Michael Miller met the Chief Election Commissioner at the Election Commission building on Tuesday afternoon. The Chief Election Commissioner said this after the meeting.

The CEC said that during the discussion, they (the European Union) wanted to know how we are preparing for the upcoming democratic transition? Starting from the preparation of the voter list, what will be the timeline of other preparations? He also said that they are ready to help and provide all kinds of support in this progress of Bangladesh. They want a democratic transition. They will give us all the support we need on this path and will be with us.

He also said that the European Union will send people. What we need – then it will be decided where they can help us. In addition, the European Union has expressed interest in staying as an observer – if we request it.

Nasir Uddin said, we have assured them – because we have deployed all our forces for free, fair and credible elections. The European Union is quite happy with our preparations. However, they have mentioned that the time for reform is getting short. They have emphasized – the reform process must be carried out. There has been talk about reform. However, I have said that the independence of the EC as per the constitution should be ensured – I have told them that we want this.
