New Delhi hopes that all existing agreements made by India and Bangladesh on the border based on mutual consent will be respected. Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this in a regular briefing on Friday.

The Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson highlighted the country’s position ahead of the Director General-level conference of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The 55th BGB-BSF Director General-level conference will be held in New Delhi from February 17 to 20.

Referring to the four agreements with India, Bangladesh’s Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Wednesday that major problems have arisen in the agreement signed in 2010. The agreement is somewhat uneven.

When asked about the statement of the Bangladesh Home Affairs Advisor, Randhir Jaiswal told reporters that it has been proposed to discuss all border-related issues at the Director General-level meeting of the border guards of the two countries.

The Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “We hope that all agreements made on the basis of mutual consent will be respected. These agreements have been made on the basis of structural relations between India and Bangladesh and in fact the border guards of the two countries.”

Randhir Jaiswal further said that these agreements have provided opportunities for convenient security, trade and infrastructure development on the border of India and Bangladesh for both. Therefore, we hope that all the agreements will be respected.
