Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed gave an idea about the progress of Bangladesh’s judiciary to military and civilian officials at the National Defense College. This was announced in a press release of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The release said that on Tuesday, the Chief Justice delivered a speech as a resource person at a course conducted for Bangladeshi and foreign military officers of the rank of Brigadier General and above and civilian officials of the rank of Joint Secretary and above at the invitation of the Defense College.

In his speech, the Chief Justice gave an idea about the judicial system of Bangladesh to the high-ranking military and civilian officials participating in the course.
In his speech, he shed light on various issues including the origin and development of the law and judicial system of this land, various theoretical and practical issues of law, court management in Bangladesh, the role of the judiciary in establishing the rule of law and ensuring good governance, the importance of the independence of the judiciary in national security and stability, and the ‘judicial activism’ of the country’s high court in establishing social justice, the release said.

It further said that he also presented the detailed outline of the roadmap for judicial reform announced by him after assuming office as the Chief Justice. He also gave the course participants an idea of ​​the significant progress made in implementing that roadmap within four months of his assuming office.

He also said that the door has been opened for merit-based appointments in the appointment of Supreme Court judges through the Judicial Appointments Council, which was formed on his initiative to bring transparency in the appointment of high court judges.

The Chief Justice mentioned in his speech that the Supreme Judicial Council under his leadership is active in ensuring the accountability of the judiciary. He is committed to implementing various short, medium and long-term plans for effective separation of powers and facilitation of judicial services in the judiciary.
