National Assembly elections may be held by the end of this year, said Chief Advisor to the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He said this in a special interview with Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) on Wednesday.
Dr. Yunus said, ‘When we came to power, if we talk about the situation at that time, I think we have come a long way. Because it (was) a devastated society, a devastated economy, a devastated political system, a judicial system.’
Regarding the elections, the Chief Advisor said, ‘The earliest time for elections could be the end of this year. When the elections are held, those who are elected will get a strong foundation to work on.’
Regarding the young generation, Dr. Yunus said, ‘What the young want to do is to show their creative power and share it with the whole world. We have this goal in mind, let’s see how we move forward.’
The Chief Advisor expressed gratitude to Japan, Bangladesh’s largest development partner. He said, ‘Japan’s technology and financing have provided employment opportunities for young Bangladeshis.’
He expressed his opinion.
