As part of the ongoing ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ across the country, police have arrested 82 people in Gazipur till Sunday afternoon. Of these, Gazipur Metropolitan Police has arrested 42 and Gazipur District Police has arrested 40.
Most of those arrested are said to be leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League and its affiliated organizations. Police claim that they were trying to create instability in various ways.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime-North) Riaz Uddin said that 42 people have been arrested in the ongoing operation in 8 police stations of the metropolis. He said, “34 people were arrested in connection with the attack on students in Dhirashram area on Saturday afternoon. The attack took place in front of the ancestral house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate AKM Mozammel Haque. The operation is being carried out in coordination with the joint forces and will continue.”
Meanwhile, Gazipur District Superintendent of Police Dr. Chowdhury Md. Jaber Sadek said that 40 people have been arrested from five police stations in the district—Kaliganj, Kapasia, Joydevpur, Sreepur and Kaliakoir. He said, “The arrested are people of the fascist government in various ways. This operation will continue throughout the district.”
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan said, “We are identifying those who will not let the people live in peace, those who are creating chaos. They will definitely be brought under the law.”
He also said that two cases have been filed in connection with the attack on students in Gazipur—one in connection with the attack in the Dhirashram area and the other in connection with the shooting of students on Rajbari Road in the city.
The police said that ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ will continue and strict legal action will be taken against those who take a stand against the people.
