Shaheed Hasan buried after 6 months in July movement

On August 5, Sheikh Hasina fled in the face of student and public movements. Victory processions took out across the country, including the capital, on the news of the Awami League president’s escape. Hasan was martyred in Jatrabari in the capital while going to such a victory procession. But his identity could not be confirmed until now. Finally, after a long 6 months, Hasan’s identity was found. A funeral was also held. He was later buried.

Shaheed Hasan is a resident of Samadar village in Kachia union of Bhola. He worked as a manager at his sister-in-law’s electronic shop in Kaptai Bazar, Jatrabari.

Hasan’s body had been lying in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for the last few months. His identity could not be found either. Finally, Hasan was identified through DNA. Later, the DMCH authorities handed over the body to the family on Friday. And the body was taken to Bhola on Saturday morning.

When Hasan’s body reached his home, his relatives burst into tears. Hasan’s second funeral was held at the Shahamadar Secondary School grounds in Kachia at around 10:30 am on Saturday. Hundreds of people attended the funeral. After the funeral, he was buried in the family graveyard.

Earlier, Hasan’s first funeral was held in front of the Raju Sculpture of Dhaka University. After that, anti-discrimination students took the body there and held a coffin procession.

Hasan’s elder sister Shahnaz Begum said while crying, “What did my brother do wrong that he had to be killed. We found my brother’s body after a long 6 months. We want a fair trial for my brother’s murder.”
