On Bangladesh’s position, Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said, “Bangladesh is in a very favorable position, located between two superpowers like India and China. This geo-economic situation has created a golden opportunity for us. Our country has a vast coastline and huge energy sources like hydro-power potential near the Himalayas, which is opening doors of possibilities not only for neighboring countries but also for us.”
He also said, “Work has started for a large economic zone from Comilla to Teknaf using Bangladesh’s coastline and seaports. This will increase the convenience of transporting goods by sea and will make it possible to trade easily from Bangladesh to Nepal, Bhutan and the Seven Sisters in eastern India.”
He also mentioned, “Nepal and Bhutan do not have access to the sea, but Bangladesh can open the door to their sea routes. Not only will Bangladesh benefit from this cooperation, but it will also play a role in the economic development of neighboring countries.”
“This economic zone is very important for various neighboring countries and our mutual cooperation will open up new horizons of possibilities for our country and neighbors.” —This is what he said.
