Deposits are increasing in the country’s banking sector

Economic Reporter //

Deposits are increasing again in the country’s banking sector. In the six months from July to December last year, deposits in banks increased by 34,517 crore taka. This brought the total deposit amount to 17,77,315 crore taka at the end of December.

According to the Bangladesh Bank report, the total deposit at the end of June was 17,42,798 crore taka. At that time, the amount of cash in people’s hands outside the banks was 2,90,436 crore taka, which decreased to 2,76,341 crore taka at the end of December. That is, about 14,000 crore taka has returned to the banks in six months.

Bank officials believe that people started withdrawing money from banks due to last year’s political unrest. However, as the situation gradually normalizes and the interest rate on deposits increases, customers are depositing money in banks again. This is increasing deposits and reducing the amount of cash outside the banks.
