Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will not be possible if the importance of mother tongue is not understood, said Nobel laureate economist and Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
He made this remark while virtually participating in an event organized on the occasion of the silver jubilee of International Mother Language Day at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France on Friday.
Professor Yunus said that mother tongue is at the core of human identity. Everyone should understand the importance of their mother tongue, otherwise it will not be possible to achieve the Three Zeros theory and the Sustainable Development Goals.
He also said that it is not possible to achieve the development goal by leaving anyone behind. It is possible to create the foundation for true sustainable development only by respecting linguistic diversity and mother tongue.
It is worth noting that representatives from different countries participated in this UNESCO event and emphasized the preservation and development of mother tongues.
Expressed their opinions.
