Former SMP Police Commissioner Nisharul Arif on compulsory retirement

Former Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Md. Nisharul Arif has been sent on compulsory retirement. He was currently serving as DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Unit.

Md. Nisharul Arif served as Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) from October 2020 to February 2023.

He was sent on retirement in a separate notification signed by Senior Secretary of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani on Sunday. In addition, three DIGs of the police have been sent on compulsory retirement.

The other three officers sent on compulsory retirement are – DIG of Naval Police Md. Abdul Quddus Amin, DIG of Highway Police Md. Azad Mia and Amena Begum.

The notification said that these four persons have been granted retirement from government service in public interest in accordance with the provisions of Section 45 of the Government Services Act, 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018).

They will receive retirement benefits as per the rules. The notification said that this order issued in public interest will come into effect immediately.
