Want to hold elections like 1991, 1996 and 2001: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has commented that the Election Commission wants to hold elections like 1991, 1996 and 2001 with everyone. He told reporters after a view-sharing meeting held on the occasion of ‘Update of voter list with photos in Cox’s Bazar district and 13th National Parliament Election’ on Sunday afternoon.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the Election Commission wants to give the gift of a beautiful election. Everyone’s involvement and cooperation is needed in this regard.

He also said that those in the current administration conducted the elections of 1991, 1996 and 2001. The Election Commission will not give any unfair pressure or make any unfair decisions.

The Chief Election Commissioner instructed the officials assigned to election duties to work according to the law and promised to stand by them.

In response to a question from journalists, he said that the Election Commission does not want to get into the debate of whether the National Parliament election will be held first or the local government elections. For now, our first goal is to create an accurate voter list. 1.6 million dead voters should be removed from the voter list.

The meeting began at 10:30 am in the conference room of the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin presided over it.

The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Regional Election Officer of Chittagong Region, Deputy Director of Cox’s Bazar Local Government Department, all Additional Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, all Upazila Executive Officers of the district and Upazila Election Officers.
