Two-state solution can end Israeli-Palestinian conflict: EU

The European Union’s (EU) top diplomat, Kaza Kallas, has said that there is no other option than a two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He made the remarks at a joint press conference on Monday (February 24) after the EU-Israel Association Council meeting. Daily Sabah reports.

Kaza Kallas said, “We support the Palestinian Authority and their return to Gaza. We support the return of every displaced Palestinian whose home is Gaza.”

He said, “When the time comes, the EU will also support the reconstruction of Gaza with regional parties. The Palestinians must be allowed to stay in Gaza.” ’

The European Union on Monday raised the pressure on Israel over the West Bank operation and the fragile ceasefire in Gaza at a meeting of its foreign ministers in Brussels.

“We are following developments closely, and we cannot hide our concerns about the West Bank,” said Callas.

This is the first meeting between the two sides under the framework of an association agreement signed between the EU and Israel in 2022. Israel has suspended such talks for a decade due to EU criticism of the West Bank settlement.

Spain and Ireland had called on the bloc to suspend its association agreement with Israel last year over the crimes committed in Gaza. But other pro-Israel EU countries refused to take such action.

Israeli Minister Gideon Saar said of the meeting: “I have listened to the positions of all member states, I have responded to their positions and their concerns, and I have outlined Israel’s position. ’

Have your say.
