Dhaka //

The banks and related officials involved in lending to Beximco illegally will be brought under the law. If any of them go abroad, their passports will be canceled if necessary, said retired Brigadier General Sakhawat Hossain.

At noon, he said at the Secretariat, “Tk 525 crore 46 lakh has been collected to settle the dues of 33,000 workers and officials of the 14 factories closed in the Beximco Industrial Park. Their dues will be paid from March 9.”

In Gazipur, 14 factories of the Textile and Apparel Department of the Beximco Industrial Park have been closed. 31,669 workers and more than 1,500 officials worked in these factories. Their outstanding dues are Tk 525 crore 46 lakh.

Retired Brigadier General Sakhawat Hossain said at the press conference, “This is not the money of the Ministry of Labor, it is the money of the workers.”

He also said, “We first said that we cannot give it, but later the Governor of Bangladesh Bank confirmed that he will replace that money the moment the money comes out.”

He also said, “Those who are responsible for giving such an amount of illegal loans in the name of an organization will not be given any concession. Everyone will be brought under the law.”

He also said, “Those who have gone abroad, I would request you to come back and surrender. And if you think that you will go away like this, but I don’t think that is going to happen in the next few years.”
