The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has constructed a barbed wire fence on the zero line of the Dahagram border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. Upon receiving the news, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members protested against the construction of the fence in violation of the border law. Tension has been prevailing on the border since then.

BGB and locals told the media that late on Friday night, members of the Arun Camp of the 6th Battalion of the West Bengal BSF illegally constructed a barbed wire fence and iron poles on the 500-yard border, excluding 3 to 5 yards of the zero line, in the Dahagram Colonipara border area (sub-pillars 3 to 8 of main DAMP pillar 2). Indian citizens helped them in this.

On Saturday morning, upon receiving the news, Subedar Lutfar Rahman, commander of Dahagram Angarpota BGB camp, went to the spot with BGB members and took up position. At that time, the BSF members also stopped the construction work and took a position next to the barbed wire fence. This led to extreme tension.

The BGB strongly protested the incident. On Saturday, at around 4:30 pm, the BGB held a flag meeting with the camp commander of Arun Camp at the Colonipara zero line for about half an hour. On behalf of the BGB, Panbari Company Commander Subedar Ayub Ali led a 7-member delegation. On the other hand, a 7-member delegation led by Indian BSF Botbari Company Commander Jalam Singh participated in the meeting.

Panbari Company Commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Rangpur 51 Battalion Subedar Lutfar Rahman said that a strong protest has been lodged against the incident. BGB patrolling and surveillance on the border is continuing.

In this regard, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Rangpur 51 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Md. Selim Aldeen said, “Protest has been lodged against the construction of the barbed wire fence. The BSF said that the local villagers of their country have built a barbed wire fence with the help of the district administration. We said that we do not accept these verbal statements. They have been asked to keep their commitment. The BSF told us that they will talk to their higher authorities and resolve this issue.’
