Attempts are being made to discredit the army: Tarique Rahman

Special Correspondent //

Bangladesh: Attempts are being made to discredit the army, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged everyone to be aware and vigilant. He said, a few days ago we saw that reforms and elections are being brought face to face, in the same way, attempts are being made to make the army face the people. As a politician, I understand that there is some conspiracy behind this. If all patriotic people are aware and vigilant, then we will definitely be able to confront this conspiracy. We have to confront this conspiracy at any cost.

He said these things while virtually joining the Doa and Iftar Mahfil organized by the BNP Media Cell at the Ladies Club in the capital on Monday evening as the chief guest.

The Acting Chairman said, the previous autocratic government has destroyed every institution of the state. We look to the Bangladesh Army to protect the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. An attempt is being made to discredit that army. An attempt is being made to make it face the people.

Urging journalists to be vigilant and also to reveal the truth, he said, “Today, as a member of the journalist community, I think you have a great role here. Currently, propaganda is being spread on various issues. If you present the truth from your perspective, we will be able to confront this conspiracy. Today, my request on behalf of the party is that let us live up to the expectation that the freedom fighters sacrificed their lives in 1971 for an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. Later, people from different classes and professions, including journalists, sacrificed their lives to protect the rights of the people of Bangladesh. Let us work so that the sacrifices of those who have been victims of disappearances and murders in the struggle for democratic transition of the last 16-17 years do not go in vain.”

Tareq Rahman said, “In July-August, the citizens who gave their lives to end tyranny and establish their democratic rights, everyone must come together on one platform so that this sacrifice of every person’s life is meaningful.” We all have to be aware, we all have to play a role from our respective positions.

This top BNP leader said, somewhere, someone is trying to do something. The fallen dictatorial government is still involved in their conspiracy. If we work together, we will be able to confront this conspiracy. Our first and only goal should be to establish the democratic rights of the people of this country at any cost and ensure the economic independence of the people of the country. I firmly believe that we can establish a democratic Bangladesh.

Highlighting the reform proposals raised by BNP, Tarique Rahman said, “We are grateful to the journalists for standing by us at that time and standing by Bangladesh in its democratic transition.”

He called on journalists to stand by BNP in the coming days as well.

At the Iftar Mahfil, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that a despicable attempt has begun to make the army controversial. The independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh are in danger, we are again vulnerable, our patriotic army, who have stood by the nation at every important moment of the country, has started a shameful attempt to make them controversial again.

He said, today a new conspiracy has started very skillfully. The conspiracy is to destabilize Bangladesh again, to plunge it into danger again. The institutions that exist in Bangladesh, the institutions that are still very important in protecting the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh, are also being made controversial. Especially the army is being made controversial. There can be no big motive behind this, it has only one purpose, just like the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh were endangered during the fascist government in the past.

Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas spoke at the Iftar Mahfil, chaired by BNP Media Cell Convener Moudud Alamgir Hossain Pavel and moderated by Member Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie. In addition, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Acting Chairman’s Advisor Dr. Mahadi Amin, Jugantor Editor Abdul Hai Sikder, ‘Amra BNP Paribas’ convener Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan and other prominent journalists were present at the event.
