Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan said that battery-powered autorickshaws will not be allowed on the highway under any circumstances. The autorickshaws will take up positions on all feeder roads from the highway and will pick and drop passengers one hundred meters away from the highway.

For this, he sought the cooperation of autorickshaw drivers and passengers. And if an autorickshaw goes on the highway, legal action, including dumping, will be taken against it. Legal action will also be taken against those who charge more bus fare on the occasion of Eid.

He said this at a press briefing at Chandana Crossroads on Thursday about the various steps taken to ensure that homebound passengers reach their destinations without any problems.

He said that hawkers have already been evicted from the highway to ensure smooth travel of people heading home for Eid. Illegal parking has been removed. A large number of volunteers are also working with law enforcement agencies to regulate traffic. All trucks and heavy vehicles, except those carrying raw materials and daily necessities, will be stopped from plying on the highway. Potholes on the road have been repaired.

Regarding robberies in the city, he said that the Metropolitan Police has zero tolerance for robberies. Robberies have decreased compared to before. Operations are being conducted against robbers in various places. A police member was seriously injured while trying to catch the robbers. Even then, the robbers have not been released. Efforts are being made to catch the robbers by secretly ambushing them. He said that many people have lost their jobs and started robbing. Legal action will also be taken against those who lure them. Senior officials of Gazipur Metropolitan Police were present at the time.
