Hamza Dewan Chowdhury arrived in Bangladesh on the morning of March 17 to make his international football debut. The English Premier League footballer returned to the country yesterday after playing his debut match for Bangladesh in Shillong, India, on March 25. This time, the 27-year-old defensive midfielder returned to England to focus on club football.
Hamza left the country on a Bangladesh Biman flight on Thursday (March 27) morning to join English club Sheffield United. It is learned that he first went from Dhaka to Sylhet on a flight at 9:45 in the morning. Then, around 11:45, this new sensation of Bangladesh football flew from Sylhet to Manchester on the same flight.
Before leaving the country, Hamza Chowdhury met his family at the airport. He said how good a time he had in Bangladesh. The football star is waiting to come to the red-green country again in June. Hamza thanked everyone in a short message, ‘Thank you all. Insha Allah I will come back in June. Everyone pray for me. We will meet again for the next two big matches.’
Bangladesh’s next match in the Asian Cup qualifiers is against Singapore on June 10. Hamza is scheduled to return to Bangladesh to play that match. BFF also wants to host the match at the National Stadium in Dhaka. However, the renovation work of the stadium is still ongoing. So if it cannot be hosted there, the match may be held at Bashundhara Kings Arena. Then the return leg against India will be held in Dhaka on October 18.
There has been a huge frenzy in Bangladesh for the last 10 days regarding Hamza. He received a huge reception and love in his home district Habiganj on March 17 and 18. He joined the Bangladesh national team camp in Dhaka on the night of March 18. The next day, there was a lot of interest around his practice at the Kings Arena. He was in Shillong, India to play the match from March 20-25. He won everyone’s hearts with his excellent performance against India.
However, Hamza was unique not only in his game but also in his conduct. Although he was a great player himself, he earned a place in everyone’s hearts with his respect and humble attitude towards his teammates in a very short time. The arrival of Hamza, who plays in the English Premier Football League, has created a ray of hope in Bangladeshi football. It remains to be seen how the federation utilizes this new awakening in football.
