Extortion practice will not be tolerated after the July Uprising: Asif Mahmud

Comilla Correspondent //

Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan said, due to the fascist regime, we have gone through such a situation that many people think it is my responsibility to pay extortion. We want to clearly tell the extortionists – the practice of extortion will not be tolerated after the July Uprising.

He said these things as the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony of the month-long Hifzul Quran competition at the Muradnagar Upazila Parishad ground in Comilla on Thursday afternoon.

Regarding the recent beating of some people for preventing the collection of extortion in Companiganj, Asif Mahmud said, it is very sad that even in the freedom that we got in exchange for the blood of thousands of martyrs in the July Uprising, incidents like extortion and terrorism are continuing as before. Fortunately, there are still conscious people in our society. Those who have stood up against this extortion, protested even after being hurt.

He said, I urge the youth of the whole country, wherever you see extortion by holding tokens in the name of various associations, to protest and stand up. The local administration and police force have worked to suppress extortion. You should cooperate with them.

The Youth and Sports Advisor said, the martyrs of the July Uprising gave their lives to build a beautiful Bangladesh. Those who destroyed the society and the young generation by engaging in extortion and drug trade during the fascist era will be suppressed with a strong hand.

The advisor said, the young generation and children and adolescents are the future of Bangladesh. The way we develop them, they will develop exactly the way we will get a Bangladesh like that.

He also said, the interim government is working to build a beautiful future generation by keeping the youth away from drugs and through sports and various education-related competitions.

Muradnagar Upazila Executive Officer (OC) Md. Abdur Rahman presided over the program, while Comilla Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Amirul Kaiser, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan and Upazila Branch Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement Ubaidul Siddiqui also spoke.
