A college student named Sajib Hossain (20)’s wrist was severed in a bomb blast in Bagha, Rajshahi. The incident took place on Saturday (March 29) afternoon in a mango orchard in Dalalpara village of Bagha Municipality of the upazila.
Two people have been taken to the police station for questioning in this incident. The injured Sajib Hossain is a second-year student of Jotraghav High School and BM College in the upazila.
Sajib Hossain was rescued and first admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, when his physical condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty sent him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
According to local sources, Sajib Hossain, son of Joynal Hossain of Dalalpara village of ward number 6 of Bagha Municipality, Rakib Hossain (16), son of Rezaul Karim of the same village, and Shakib Hossain (17), son of Saiful Islam of the same village, were making bombs in a mango orchard in their area.
At that time, the bomb exploded and the wrist of Sajib Hossain’s left hand was severed. His associates Rakib Hossain and Shakib Hossain rescued him and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
In this incident, the police have taken Rakib and Shakib to the police station for questioning. Rakib and Shakib are said to be ninth grade students of the local vocational institute.
In this regard, the father of injured Sajib Hossain, Joynal Hossain, said, “My son Sajib Hossain’s hand was damaged in the explosion while he was making firecrackers (bombs) with two friends to celebrate Eid ahead. They did not commit this incident for any conspiracy.’
Shafiur Rahman Shafi, the leaseholder of the Bagha Mela Committee, said, ‘They committed this incident while making bombs to destroy the 500-year-old traditional Eid fair.’
Bagha Police Station OC AFM Asaduzzaman said, ‘Two people have been brought to the police station for questioning. A case will be filed under the Explosives Act in this regard.’
