BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr. Zobaida Rahman met her mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu in the country after a long 17 years.

She went to visit her mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, who was admitted to the capital’s Panthapath Square Hospital at 6:48 pm on Tuesday. Zobaida Rahman greeted her mother with flowers there. They were overcome with emotion at the time.

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia arrived in the country at 10:40 am on Tuesday after four months of treatment in the UK. After completing immigration, Khaleda Zia’s motorcade left the airport at 11:20 am. At this time, leaders and activists waved flags and greeted the party chief. Due to the dense crowd, Khaleda Zia’s motorcade moved at a slow pace. The motorcade reached Firoza at 1:25 pm. There, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir greeted her with flowers on behalf of the standing committee members. Earlier, the vehicle carrying her left the airport for Firoza at around 11:15 am.

It is known that on May 2, Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, a prominent social worker and wife of former Navy Chief Rear Admiral Late Mahbub Ali Khan, was admitted to a hospital in the capital’s Panthapath area after falling ill. She has been suffering from various complications related to old age for a long time. Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu works for underprivileged children through the Suravi Foundation. For this, she received the Swadhinata Padak.

Zobaida Rahman left the country with Tarique Rahman 17 years ago on September 11, 2008. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against Tarique Rahman, Zobaida Rahman and Iqbal Mand Banu at the capital’s Kafrul Police Station on September 26, 2008, on charges of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income after the 111. A Dhaka court sentenced Zobaida Rahman to three years in prison and a fine of Tk 3.5 million in that case.
