Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered immediate relocation of four bus terminals in the capital Dhaka. The decision was made at a meeting on traffic congestion relief and traffic management modernization in the capital at the Cabinet Division’s Public Administration Room at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon, said the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.

He said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the immediate relocation of four intercity bus terminals outside the city to relieve traffic congestion in Dhaka.

The four intercity bus terminals are Fulbaria-Gulistan Bus Terminal, Gabtoli Bus Terminal, Mohakhali Bus Terminal and Sayedabad-Jatrabari Bus Terminal.

As per the decision, the Fulbaria-Gulistan Bus Terminal will be relocated to Keraniganj. The Mohakhali Bus Terminal will be temporarily shifted to the eastern region and later permanently shifted to Tongi. Gabtoli Intercity Bus Terminal will be moved to Hemayetpur and Sayedabad-Jatrabari Bus Terminal will be moved to Kanchpur.

The Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary said that the Prime Minister has also urged the immediate removal of bus counters scattered in various parts of the capital and their relocation to specific locations.

The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, discussed in detail the modernization of the capital’s traffic system, installation of AI cameras, and modernization of traffic management.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the benefits of installing traffic signaling AI cameras in the meeting. This is the Prime Minister’s third meeting on traffic congestion and traffic management in the capital.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib, Member of Parliament Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Home Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, RAJUK Chairman Riazul Islam, and other high-ranking officials including secretaries of the concerned ministries were present at the meeting.
