Enraged locals have vandalized the homes of the accused involved in the gang rape of an expatriate’s wife—an incident that occurred after holding her 14-year-old son hostage in Gafargaon, Mymensingh. A video of the vandalism has already gone viral on social media.

Local sources report that the robbery and gang rape took place last Thursday night at the expatriate’s home in Char Algi Union. News of the incident sparked widespread outrage in the area. Subsequently, a group of 20–30 locals, led by Robel Master (45) and Liakat Ali Akand (40), united to attack and demolish the homes of the accused.

Following the vandalism, local resident Liakat Ali Akand stated, “Those who committed such a heinous and despicable act have no right to live in society. Unless they face exemplary punishment, decent people will not be able to live safely in the community.”

Robel Master, a chairman candidate for the upcoming Char Algi Union Parishad election, said, “This incident poses a severe threat to social security. The outraged and conscious citizens of the area united to demolish the rapists’ homes. Simultaneously, a human chain was organized by people from all walks of life in front of the Char Algi Bridge to demand the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.”

It is worth noting that the victim filed a case with Gafargaon Police Station naming five individuals as accused in connection with Thursday night’s incident. The accused are Sharif (23), his brother Arif (21), Fahim (22), Rajib (23), and Enamul (22). Police have already arrested one of the accused, Rajib, and sent him to jail via the court.

Morad Khan, the Duty Officer (Sub-Inspector) at Gafargaon Police Station, stated that no one had reported the attack or vandalism of the accused’s homes to the police station. However, he added that they are looking into the matter.
