A bilateral agreement has been signed between Bangladesh and the United States aimed at the peaceful use of nuclear energy and strengthening mutual cooperation in this field. The official signing ceremony took place in the United States on September 25.

The BNP’s media cell announced this information in a statement on Saturday.

Rehan Asad, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Science and Technology, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh, while Secretary Jacob Helberg signed on behalf of the United States.

Officials concerned stated that this significant agreement would open new avenues for mutual cooperation between the two nations in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, science and technology, and other related sectors.

It is worth noting that the initiative for cooperation regarding the peaceful use of nuclear energy between Bangladesh and the United States was first undertaken in 1981, during the tenure of President Ziaur Rahman. After a long interval, the agreement has now been finally signed as a continuation of that initial initiative.
