US President Donald Trump has rejected a proposal from Iran for a seven-day truce and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Citing a report by *The Wall Street Journal*, unnamed US officials stated that Trump dismissed the proposal. This rejection came just hours after Iran had presented the new roadmap aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz for normal maritime traffic.

Under Iran’s proposal, the Strait of Hormuz was to be opened for normal maritime traffic within one week. In exchange, conditions were set for the US to release $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, lift sanctions on Iranian oil, and end the naval blockade of ports. Additionally, a cessation of all hostilities—including in Lebanon—was proposed.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had indicated that if these conditions were met, negotiations for a final agreement could begin on the seventh day.

However, the US has not yet provided a formal response to the proposal. US officials stated that Washington is in no rush and believes it holds a position of advantage, although indirect talks between the two sides continue through Qatar and other mediators.

Analysts suggest the situation could escalate into a new conflict. *The Wall Street Journal* reported that Trump has told his aides he is considering fresh airstrikes or military operations against Iran following the US midterm elections next November.

Experts say Trump does not wish to end the standoff on unfavorable terms, and the future of the conflict hinges on the election results and the political arithmetic within the US Congress.
