To achieve the government’s set targets for on-grid solar power generation, the Ministry of Education has issued a directive requiring all educational institutions in the country to install rooftop solar power systems on their suitable premises.

This directive was conveyed through an order sent to the relevant authorities by the Ministry’s Secondary and Higher Education Division on September 23.

The order states that the Power Division has set targets for on-grid solar power generation in alignment with a circular issued by the Cabinet Division aimed at ensuring greater use of solar power in government offices. To implement these targets, all educational institutions must install rooftop solar power systems on their suitable premises—either through private investment under the ‘OPEX’ model or by utilizing their own funds.

The Ministry of Education’s directive notes that there are existing instructions to maximize solar power usage in key government offices such as Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission, and the Finance Division. In continuation of this initiative, maximum utilization of solar power must be ensured in a phased manner across other government offices and educational institutions.
