Professor Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Finance and Planning, stated that Bangladesh has embarked on a new development journey with the goal of transforming from a fragile economy into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.

He made these remarks while addressing the biennial conference of the American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers and Architects (AABEA) in Detroit, Michigan, USA, on Saturday (local time). This information was conveyed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The Finance Advisor explained that to overcome the fragile economy left behind by the ousted government, the current administration is implementing a new development model based on the “Three-R” strategy: Recovery, Re-establishment, and Reconstruction. This model prioritizes increasing public investment in the education and health sectors alongside boosting investment, production, and employment.

He further added that the government aims to transform Bangladesh into a competitive manufacturing hub through industrial diversification, enhanced competitiveness and productivity, and the adoption of modern technology.

Urging US-based engineers, scientists, and tech entrepreneurs of Bangladeshi origin to contribute to the country’s development, Dr. Titumir noted that expatriates could play a pivotal role in forging connections between Bangladesh and top US universities, research institutions, technology companies, and investors.

He called upon expatriate professionals to support young engineers and entrepreneurs, foster international research collaborations with domestic universities, facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge, and open doors to global investment and markets for promising local startups.

Dr. Titumir said, “Your knowledge, experience, credibility, and professional networks constitute a vital investment for Bangladesh. Let us transform the individual successes of Bangladeshis in the US into collective potential for Bangladesh.”

US Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan Cavanagh also spoke as guests at the conference, which was presided over by the organization’s president, Engineer Monir Zaman. Bangladeshi engineers and architects from various U.S. states participated in the event.
