Nazrul Islam Khan, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, stated that the BNP is not involved in extortion or illegal occupation of property. He urged the government to take action against those spreading false propaganda regarding these issues.

He made these remarks yesterday, Monday afternoon, at a rally preceding a protest procession organized by the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in the capital’s Nayapaltan area.

Nazrul Islam said, “We are not involved in any extortion. None of our genuine leaders or activists are involved. Anyone who is truly a follower of Shaheed Zia can never be an extortionist or a land grabber. Extortionists do not belong to the BNP.”

He added, “We do not beg from anyone; we are hardworking people. A democratic government has been established in Bangladesh through elections. Therefore, we must stand against those who are undermining public peace and the government’s development efforts.”

Nazrul Islam Khan noted, “BNP founder Shaheed Ziaur Rahman used to say, ‘I am a worker, and I take pride in that.’ The BNP has always been a party that stands with the people and champions the restoration of democracy. Our leaders and activists have endured imprisonment. We must remember that people shed their blood in 1971 for democracy, development, and peace. Subsequently, we had to remain in the field of struggle for 17 years. Working-class people made the greatest sacrifices during the events of ’24.”

Leaders and activists from various levels of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal were present at the protest procession.

Meanwhile, yesterday morning, at a rally organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) in front of the National Press Club, BNP Standing Committee member Farhad Halim Donar stated that since they did not fear the regime of Sheikh Hasina, there is no reason to fear anyone now.

He remarked that as the country moves towards development, the public must remain vigilant and keep their eyes and ears open to counter conspiracies.
Farhad Halim Donar added, “You cannot possibly be more autocratic than Sheikh Hasina was. In other words, since we did not fear her, there is nothing for you to fear.” Referring to the agitation regarding electricity and fuel issues, he noted that the BNP did not create these problems; he questioned the rationale behind holding a long march over issues that the party itself acknowledges were not of its making.

Donar said, “They speak of electricity and fuel crises. Yet, their own leader stated in Parliament that these problems were not created by the BNP but arose directly during Sheikh Hasina’s administration. If he admits this himself, then why this long march?”

Regarding the country’s development, the BNP leader stated that their current task is to rectify the damage caused during the long period of agitation.

He said, “We have been waging a movement for 17 years. We will repair whatever damage has occurred.” Leaders from various levels of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh were present on the occasion.
