The Detective Branch (DB) of the district police has detained 15 leaders and activists—including Abdul Wahab, the President of the Sujanagar Upazila Awami League (an organization currently banned from operating) and former Upazila Chairman—while they were preparing for a procession in Pabna town.

They were detained on Wednesday morning (September 30) from the Indira intersection on Abdul Hamid Road in Pabna town.

Police stated that all those detained are leaders and activists at various levels of the Awami League, an organization whose activities are currently banned.

The detainees are: Abdul Wahab (62), son of the late Zahed Ali Sheikh of Mathurapur in the municipal area; his associates Md. Rabbi (23), son of Abdur Rashid Sheikh of Master Para, Sujanagar municipality; Mithun Mia (30), son of Iqbal Mia of Mathurapur; Md. Hridoy (20), son of Nazir Pramanik; Faisal (18), son of Enamul Haque; Arafat Hossain Shuvo (18), son of Sadek Sardar of the same area; Shimul Pramanik (16), son of Subahan Pramanik; Mizan Pramanik (18), son of Mahatab Pramanik; Alhaj Khan (24), son of Osman Khan; Nazmul Hasan (18), son of Abdul Alim Sheikh of Durgapur; Motiur Rahman (32), son of Abdul Mannan; Ranju Sheikh (17), son of Nabir Uddin Sheikh of Narayanpur; Sabik (19), son of Khalil Pramanik of Natun Goalbaria in Char-Tarapur Union, Sadar Upazila; and Nazmul Hossain (19), son of Sagar Pramanik.

Abdus Salam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Pabna District DB Police, stated that the group had plotted to carry out acts of sabotage within the town. As part of this plan, they had arrived in a microbus and were preparing to stage a procession. They were detained following a raid conducted based on a tip-off. The detainees have been sent to Pabna Sadar Police Station for legal proceedings.

This marks the third time Abdul Wahab has been detained since August 5. Earlier, on February 2, 2025, police detained Abdul Wahab from the Mathurapur area. However, after he was placed in a police van, local Awami League leaders and activists forcibly snatched him away; eight police officers were injured during the incident. Three days later, on February 5, the police arrested the Awami League leader again. After subsequently securing bail, Abdul Wahab and his supporters attempted to resume their political activities in the Sujanagar area.

Later, during an overnight operation on April 23 of this year in Mathurapur, police detained 21 leaders and activists—including Abdul Wahab—from the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League. They were released on bail just a few weeks after that incident.

Tarikul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, stated that the group had arrived in Pabna town in a microbus with the intention of carrying out major acts of sabotage. They had planned to commit acts of violence here and immediately flee to India afterward. However, as the police already possessed intelligence regarding their plans, they were apprehended through a coordinated effort involving various units of the district police.
