Illegal Indian goods are freely smuggled through Jaintha, Gowainghat, Companyganj, Kanighat and Jokiganj border areas of Sylhet. Although Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducts the operation, there are many allegations of dereliction of duty against the camp commanders in charge. Due to their neglect of duty, smuggling of low-quality and illegal Indian products including cattle-buffalo, drugs, weapons is spreading all over the country.
Smugglers have become more active after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. Awami Party leaders and activists have been assisting in the supply of these smuggled goods for a long time. But after their departure, another evil group in a new guise is walking the same path.
Apart from some BGB camp commanders, Tajul, the officer in charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station, is leading in the bribe trade. Related sources have confirmed that under the umbrella of Jaintapur Rajbari camp commander and Tajul, the smugglers of that area are carrying on the smuggling trade in Dedars.
According to the on-site investigation, illegal Indian goods worth around four and a half million rupees entered through the Rajbari camp area last Monday-Tuesday night. These products are being distributed to different parts of the country through Sylhet-Tamabil road.
Several shopkeepers of Jaintapur Upazila, who did not wish to be named, told the reporter that these products are constantly being imported into Bangladesh apart from Monday-Tuesday. From this, the camp commander and the police officer OC Tajul took a daily donation of twenty lakh taka. OC Tajul of Jaintapur Model Police Station has gone from zero to become the owner of lakhs of rupees due to his duties for a long time. Similarly, Rajbari camp commander has also become a hero. They also said that when the Awami League government was in power, those leaders and activists had a close relationship with OC Tajul. He used to openly smuggle lines. He would hand over stolen lines to those who would collect more subscriptions. At that time, the leaders and activists of the opposition party had to leave their houses and live in the forest due to his fear. Many have endured prison and persecution. Many journalists were not spared from his hands. At the present time, at the hands of some unscrupulous opposition leaders, he changed his shell and indulged in the same business as before. Earlier also this Raghav Boal against OCAlthough the news was published in various national dailies and social media online, no action was taken against him.
It is alleged that the alleged corrupt MP of Sylhet 4 Constituency Imran Ahmed, former outgoing District Superintendent of Police and Circle Officer of Jainta-Kanaighat Police Station encouraged him in this work. In return, the Bagbatoas of that money shared an equal number. Mysterious but true, several other alleged yellow journalists under his leadership are involved. Besides, many smugglers in that upazila have now become owners of billions of rupees. Many have built luxurious houses, bought houses along with cars. The local conscious think that if the wealth of these smugglers is taken into account, sensational information will come out. They also claimed that no legal action is being taken despite having their list in the possession of Sylhet Intelligence Agency. They sought the intervention of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this regard.
On the other hand, Gowainghat, Companiganj and Kanighat thana police have worked to prevent this, but the condition of other thana police is very shaky. But the most embarrassing situation is the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Many Bangladeshis are losing their lives prematurely in BSF firing at different borders of the country due to their futile motives. Children, teenagers and the elderly are not spared from this. After the student movement. The Yunus government has signaled to increase the strict surveillance on the border after coming to power, but the appearance on the ground is different.
When I contacted the Rajbari camp commander’s official mobile to inquire about this, he answered the call and said I am busy now, talk later. After calling several times, his mobile phone was not received. At one point, he sent a small message on WhatsApp, but he did not respond. On the other hand, Jaintapur Model Police Station OC Tajul’s phone call did not receive any response.।
