Abu Saeed murder: Two policemen sent to jail after remand

Court Reporter //

Two policemen accused in the murder case of Abu Saeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, who was shot by the police during the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur, have been sent to jail by the court.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police ASI Md. Police Bureau of Investigation-PBI brought Amir Hossain and Constable Sujan Chandra to court.

Judge of Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2. PBI presented remand report to Asaduzzaman. As the PBI did not file a fresh remand application, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.

Earlier on August 10, the same court judge granted their four-day remand for interrogation. The investigating agency sought a five-day remand.

Court inspector Prithish Kumar said that two policemen fell ill while on remand for four days. After their treatment, the matter was reported to the court. The court ordered to send them to jail.

Meanwhile, the lawyers of the plaintiff have expressed doubts about the PBI’s investigation as the accused were presented to the court before the remand period expired, the police officers remained in their positions even though they were accused, no new accused was arrested, and no new remand was taken. They also expressed their fear of not getting proper justice.

Raihanuzzaman Raihan, lawyer for the plaintiff, said that on the day of presentation of the accused in the court, ASI Amir Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra were taken to confess in the court. When PBI applied to the court for five days remand, the court granted four days remand. The investigating agency produced the accused in the court on the third day of remand and said that the accused was ill. The accused did not give any confession in court. We suspect that the investigating officer was negligent and malpracticed in the investigation. Also there is a doubt about the correct judgment.

He also said that all the accused in this case are senior police officers. On the day the case was filed, the court directed that action be taken against all the police officers connected with the case as per appropriate rules but still in office who could influence the case. If the investigating agency does not ask for remand by Sunday, we will ask for a change in the investigating officer of the case.

Another lawyer for the plaintiff, Shamim Al Mamun, said that the two accused who fired on their orders, there were some police officers behind them, should be brought under the law quickly. The investigating officer told the court that they are collating the information given by the accused on remand. If necessary, remand will be sought later.

It is to be noted that on September 10, when the PBI applied for a 5-day remand of two policemen, the court granted a 4-day remand.
