Home Minister’s son Jyoti on remand for four days

The court granted a four-day remand to Khan Jyoti, son of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s son Shafi Moddas, in the Ashulia Police Station murder case. Judge Saiful Islam gave this order after the hearing in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Saturday (September 14) afternoon.

Earlier in the afternoon, sub-inspector Abu Taher Miah of Ashulia police station applied to take Jyoti on seven-day remand. Last September 11. A young man named Rabiul Sunny Nake filed a case of attempted murder at Ashulia police station. Shafi is accused number 4 of the case.

Also accused are former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former education minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, former secretary of UGC. Ferdous Zaman, former member of UGC. Muhammad Alamgir, Dr. Biswajit Chandra Chand and Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain.

Earlier on Friday (September 13), he was arrested from the capital. It is known that the only son of the two children of the Home Minister, Jyoti is the managing director of the family business ‘Savar Refractories Limited’. Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, some former ministers and some Awami League leaders have been arrested, but Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has remained hidden from the public eye until now.

However, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered the blocking of the bank accounts of former home minister and his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan and their sons and daughters. The court also banned their foreign travel. Besides, the ACC has entered the field to investigate an allegation against Kamal and his associates of taking bribes of crores of rupees through recruitment, transfer and posting of manpower.

Asaduzzaman’s corruption complaint to the ACC says that he used to take “bags and bags” of money as bribe ever since he got the charge of Home Minister. This money was collected from police, drug control department and fire service.
