13 fishing trawlers of Cox’s Bazar could not return to the coast due to continuous rains and hostile weather. It is claimed that more than 500 midges are missing in these trawlers. They have been out of touch for the last 48 hours.
General Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Fishing Boat Owners Association, Delwar Hossain, gave this information.
The missing trawlers are FB Hasan, FB Abshar, FB Sabit, FB Maeer Doa, FB Kaiser, FB Abdul Malek Ek-Dui, FB Ankhi, FB Tahsin, FB Babul, FB Nashir, FB Salim, FB Nazir and FB Johnny.
Delwar Hossain, General Secretary of Fishing Boat Owners Association, said that it has been raining continuously since last Wednesday on the coast of Cox’s Bazar. Fishermen were returning to the coast due to rain with stormy winds. Many trawlers have lost control along the way and washed away. Out of them, 8 trawlers floated to Patwartek point of Kalatali and Ukhiyar Inani. More than three hundred fishermen were rescued alive from there. The bodies of two jailers have been recovered.
He also said that there is no contact with 13 fishing trawlers for the last 48 hours. More than 500 jailers in these trawlers are not connected to their phones or in any way. As such, they are missing.
6 people from two families died in separate landslides in Cox’s Bazar as a result of continuous rains for the past few days. Two fishermen died in trawler drowning. Besides, a child drowned in Teknaf flood water. A total of 9 people died in one day in Cox’s Bazar district.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salauddin confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, the rain has reduced in Cox’s Bazar since Friday night. Even though the water recedes from the hotel zone of the city, people are suffering due to waterlogging in different places. The district has recorded 225 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
60 mm of rainfall was recorded from 6 am to 9 am on Saturday. Earlier, 501 mm rainfall was recorded from 3 pm on Thursday to 3 pm today, which is the first in the history of the country.
