The BNP Chairperson is undergoing treatment in the Critical Care Unit (CCU). Entry restrictions have been imposed for all except the medical board doctors and nurses. Fakhrul went to Evercare Hospital and spoke to the doctors and was informed about his physical condition.

Later, Mirza Fakhrul told the media, I went to Evercare Hospital today (Saturday) at 1.30 pm to see Madam (Khaleda Zia). Now he is in CCU. His condition is critical and doctors are not allowing anyone inside now. I spoke to the doctors who treated him and I learned from the doctors that his condition is very critical. They will probably hold another board meeting this evening (Saturday) and decide what to do next accordingly.

When Khaleda Zia suddenly became ‘sick’ at Basa Feroza in Gulshan on Friday, she was admitted to Evercare Hospital by ambulance at 3.30 pm.

The medical board members including Prof. FM Siddiqui, Prof. Shamsul Arefin, Prof. AQM Mohsin under the leadership of expert doctor Prof. Shahabuddin Talukder reviewed Khaleda Zia’s latest condition in several rounds of meetings. Apart from diabetes, arthritis, 79-year-old Khaleda Zia is suffering from various complex diseases of heart, lung, liver and kidney.

Incidentally, on February 8, 2018, Khaleda Zia went to jail after receiving a prison sentence in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. Later, in October of the same year, the sentence was doubled on appeal to the High Court. In the same month, he was sentenced to 7 years in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. Since then he was in jail for almost two years. Khaleda Zia’s sentence was suspended on March 25, 2020, and she was released by the government’s executive order on two conditions when the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic escalated.

The first is that he has to take treatment from home. The second condition is that he cannot go abroad. He was then released for 6 months at the request of his family amid the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, his release period has been extended every six months on the plea of ​​the family.
