Former culture minister Asaduzzaman Noor arrested

Former culture minister Asaduzzaman Noor was arrested by the police from Bailey Road in the capital on Sunday night.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective) Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the fact of the arrest and said that Asaduzzaman Noor was arrested at around 11 pm in a murder case filed at Mirpur police station in the capital. He will be produced in court tomorrow.

Hero freedom fighter Asaduzzaman Noor is a popular face in the cultural arena of Bangladesh. Asaduzzaman Noor, who is famous as a theater actor, was first elected as a member of Parliament in 2001 on the nomination of Awami League.

After that, Asaduzzaman Noor became a member of Parliament in the elections of 2008, 2014, 2018 and 2024. He became the Culture Minister after the 2014 elections.

Sheikh Hasina left the country by resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of student uprising. Since then, 27 ministers, members of parliament, advisers and top leaders of the Awami League government have been arrested. Among them are Law Minister Anisul Haque, former prime minister’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and adviser on energy, mineral resources and power Taufiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury.
