Retired Supreme Court Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was sent from Sylhet to Dhaka by helicopter under strict police security.
He was taken to MAG Osmani International Airport from Sylhet Central Jail on Tuesday around 3 pm. From there, the helicopter carrying him left for the Tejgaon old airport in the capital Dhaka.
Sylhet Central Jail Deputy Inspector General (DIG Prison) confirmed the matter. Chagir Mia. He said – Manik is appearing in a case in Dhaka court on Wednesday.
Earlier on Monday (September 16) in an order signed by the Superintendent of Police, DSB, Sylhet (Memorandum Number-4292), Justice Manik was assigned the responsibility of security by sending him to Dhaka by helicopter. Kanighat Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Alok Sharma and SAF Police Lines Sylhet Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Hai were assigned the responsibility of ensuring the safety of Justice Manik in a helicopter.
The order also said that the police will supervise the overall security system of Sylhet Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops). Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman will be in overall charge of Rafiqul Islam and security system.
Meanwhile, Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was granted bail on Tuesday morning in the case filed in the case of attempted illegal entry into India through Kanighat border in Sylhet. The court granted him bail in the morning.
Manik was brought to Sylhet Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court at around 9:30 am on Tuesday and the police applied to arrest him in the Kanighat police station case of Sylhet. In view of this, the learned judge of the court ordered the arrest of Manik. On the other hand, when Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik’s lawyer applied for bail in this case, the court granted it. But he remains in jail due to other cases.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik from a forest with the help of some local youth while fleeing to India through the Dana border of Kanighat upazila of Sylhet on the night of August 23. He was handed over to Kanighat police station the next morning (August 24). Arrested under Section 54, Sylhet Senior Judicial Magistrate-1 Alamgir Hossain ordered him to be jailed when he was brought to court that afternoon. Later, a case was filed against Manik in the Kanighat police station under the Passport Act.
On August 24, Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was brutally killed and punched by the angry crowd in the court premises when he entered the Sylhet court. His testicles were also severely injured. Many people throw shoes as well as eggs. After being taken from the court to the jail, he fell ill in the evening and was admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Later, surgery was performed on his body in Osmani.
After 20 days of treatment in the hospital, the Osmani Medical College Hospital authorities gave Manik a discharge certificate on September 12 as his physical condition improved. He was taken to Sylhet Central Jail from the hospital in the afternoon with strict security and extreme caution. Shamsuddin Manik has heart problem. Bypass surgery done 10 years ago. Apart from this, there is diabetes, high blood pressure.
