The administration of Jahangirnagar University has temporarily expelled eight students in connection with the beating death of Shamim Ahmed alias Shamim Molla, a former student of Jahangirnagar University and former leader of Chhatra League. At the same time, a six-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

This information was confirmed in an office order signed by Acting Registrar ABM Azizur Rahman on Thursday night. According to the office order, punishment was given to the accused students for their direct involvement in the incident on the basis of the evidence (video footage and photographs) obtained as per the preliminary report of the Proctoral Body in the unexpected death of Shamim Mollah, a former student of the history department of the 39th batch of the university on September 18.

The expelled students are Mohammad Rajan Mia, a student of the 46th batch of government and politics department and Raju Ahmed, a student of the 45th batch of the same department, Hamidullah Salman, a student of the 49th batch of the English department and Md. a student of the 50th batch of the same department. Mahmudul Hasan Raihan, 44th batch student of history department, Zubair Ahmed, 49th batch student of management studies department. Atikuzzaman, Sohag Mia, 47th batch student of Computer Science and Engineering Department and Ahsan Labib, 49th batch student of Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering Department.

Among them, Rajan Mia, Raju Ahmed and Hamidullah Salman have been confirmed to be associated with Chhatra Dal politics. On the other hand, Ahsan Labib is the coordinator of Jabi branch of anti-discrimination student movement.

A six-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the death of Shamim Ahmed. The committee has been asked to investigate and submit a report with recommendations within the next 30 working days.

Professor Swadhin Sen of the Department of Archeology is the chairman of the investigation committee. Apart from this, there are professor of philosophy department Muhammad Tarek Chowdhury, professor of history department. Emran Jahan, History Department Professor Anisha Parveen Joli, Journalism and Media Studies Department Associate Professor Amina Islam and Mr. Md. as secretary.
