Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed issues related to Bangladesh in a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden. Joe Biden welcomed Narendra Modi at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday (September 21) US local time.
Later, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri confirmed that the bilateral meeting between Narendra Modi and Biden will discuss Bangladesh issues. Last month, Modi said that the situation in Bangladesh will be discussed in a phone conversation with Biden. In a post on X, he said, they emphasized on bringing back normalcy in Bangladesh quickly. Besides, there was a discussion about ensuring the security of minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus.
The summit of the Quad, an alliance of four countries – the United States, Australia, Japan and India – was held in Wilmington on Saturday. Apart from Joe Biden and Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also participated. The Quad leaders vowed to advance efforts to establish a free, open and participatory Indo-Pacific region.
According to a report of the Indian news agency ANI, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri said that the Bangladesh issue was also discussed in the Quad conference. At a press briefing in New York, journalists asked him whether the Quad leaders discussed Bangladesh. In response, he said, ‘Various issues of this region came up in the discussion. These issues may be of interest to one party or others, but they have importance beyond the region and many situations have been discussed in this context. The discussion of Bangladesh also came up and there was an exchange of views on the situation.
