The death of Abu Saeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, has been mentioned as a murder in the autopsy report. According to the report, Saeed had stab marks from his face to his thigh. Bullets penetrated and created holes in various parts of his body. Because of this, he died of excessive bleeding. However, he also had a blood clot on the left side of his head due to the injury.
2 months and 8 days after Abu Saeed’s death, the autopsy report was published on social media. Rangpur Medical College Forensic Department Chief Assistant Professor Rajibul Islam conducted the autopsy of Abu Saeed’s body.
Yesterday Tuesday night, Rajibul Islam confirmed to the media that the autopsy report will be given. He said that the report was given to the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case on July 30.
Abu Saeed was shot dead at the park intersection in front of Begum Rokeya University on July 16, when the movement to demand quota reform in government jobs was spreading across the country. 25-year-old Abu Saeed Begum was a 12th batch student of Rokeya University’s English department. He was one of the coordinators of the university quota reform movement.
Regarding the post-mortem, doctor Rajibul Islam said that Abu Saeed died in police firing. He (Sayed) was shot within 10 meters and his internal organs were ruptured. Which causes excessive bleeding. According to the coroner, it was a murder.
When asked about the injury to Abu Saeed’s head, Rajibul Islam said that injury marks were found on the left side of his head. It may be due to fall or other environmental reasons. But it is not the cause of death. He would not have died if he had not been shot.
The post-mortem report also said that Abu Saeed suffered a blood clot due to injuries to his esophagus and thigh. Due to this bleeding, Abu Saeed went into shock and died.
In multiple video footages of the incident, Abu Saeed was shot at close range by the police on the road in front of Begum Rokeya University on July 16 during the quota reform activists’ program. And Abu Saeed took a stick in one hand and extended both hands to reach the chest. In no time he collapsed.
A video of an unarmed Abu Saeed being shot dead by police in front of the university sparked widespread reactions across the country. Many people protested against this killing, so that the quota reform movement became more dynamic. Sheikh Hasina left the country by resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of student protests.
