Two teachers were dismissed for wearing hijab of Hindu girls

Students protested at Muslim Uddin Girls High School in Daspara, Rangpur city, alleging that they were trying to make it compulsory for Hindu girls to wear hijab. Due to this protest, an investigation committee has been formed by the Deputy Commissioner. Along with that, the head teacher Mofizur Rahman and religion teacher Mostafizur Rahman have been temporarily suspended.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) and President of the Management Committee of Muslim Uddin Girls High School Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Hindu female students protested demanding the resignation and punishment of the two accused teachers including the head teacher. Their parents were also present at that time. The video of the protest has gone viral on social media. When the matter came to light, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Rezaul Karim, a member of the law enforcement force along with the army and president of the school management committee, attended the scene. After that the situation calmed down. In a video that went viral on Facebook, some protesting Hindu students were heard making various allegations against the two teachers, including trying to force them to wear hijab.

Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman confirmed that the video was from Muslim Uddin Girls’ High School. He said, “I was present at that school during the incident. I was also present at the meeting in the presence of local dignitaries. The situation in the area is now good.

When the head teacher Mofizur Rahman was contacted to talk about this, he denied the students’ complaints and expressed his inability to comment. Religion teacher Mostafizar Rahman could not speak as his phone was switched off.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Rezaul Karim said that the students of the school have written a complaint against the head teacher and the two. There have been allegations of being forced to wear hijab. There are also some other complaints. The complainants are students of classes VI to 10. The Additional Deputy Commissioner also said, ‘After learning about the situation in the school yesterday, I rushed to that school. Members of law enforcement along with the army were present there. To deal with the situation, the accused head teacher and religion teacher were temporarily suspended from the school. Also a show cause notice has been issued within 10 working days. After that the situation calmed down.
