US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin condemned Iran for firing 181 missiles at Israel. Along with that, he said that if there is really a war between Iran and Israel, then the United States will be on Israel’s side.
“We condemn this heinous act of aggression by Iran and call on Iran and the terrorist groups it supports to refrain from any further attacks on Israel,” Lloyd Austin said in a statement Wednesday morning after Tuesday night’s attack.
“Also, I want to make it clear that if there is any future attack against our military bases in the Middle East, against Israel and our allies and partners in the region, we will stand with Israel and our Middle East allies and the U.S. military will respond appropriately.”
It should be noted that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite wing of the Iranian army, fired 181 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday night. Most of the missiles, however, were destroyed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) before they hit their targets.
A senior official of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards told Reuters that the IRGC launched Tuesday night’s missile attack targeting 3 Israeli military bases. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei himself ordered the attack.
“Iran’s attack will be responded to,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a message. We have a plan ready, it will be implemented on time.”
An IRGC official told Iran’s Fars news agency in this regard, “This operation was carried out in protest against the operation against Hezbollah. If the Zionist group tries to respond to Iran’s operation, our next attack will be more devastating.”
Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Michel Bernier and German Foreign Minister Annelina Bierbock expressed fear that the hostile attitude towards each other of the two arch-nemesis countries in the Middle East will soon provoke the fear of war in the region.
