Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Asif Nazrul said that the Cyber Security Act must be repealed. He gave this information at a discussion meeting at the Judicial Training Institute in the capital on Thursday (October 3) afternoon.
Earlier, in a press release on September 30, the Ministry of Law said that all cases related to ‘speech offence’ (free expression) filed under the Cyber Act in the past will be withdrawn. Also, if anyone is arrested in these cases, he will be released immediately in the legal process.
It is to be noted that a total of 5 thousand 818 cases have been filed in the 8 cyber tribunals of the country till August this year under Information and Communication Technology Act 2006, Digital Security Act 2018 and Cyber Security Act 2023. They are still running.
Besides, currently 1 thousand 340 cases related to ‘Speech Offence’ are ongoing. Among them, 279 cases under Information and Communication Technology Act, 786 under Digital Security Act and 275 under Cyber Security Act are ongoing. Of these, 461 are under investigation by investigating agencies and 879 are under trial by 8 cyber tribunals.
Cases filed due to free expression through digital media have been identified as ‘speech offences’ and fraud through computer hacking or any other digital device as ‘computer offences’.
